Declan and Carol Currid are our only husband and wife unit on the team.
Carol was the first to jump in, after seeing an ad in the Mayo news in 2015, to recruit new members.
A native of South Africa but married and settled in Westport she found herself looking for a new challenge. She loves being on the team and even managed to persuade her husband Declan to join the following year. She has really enjoyed the skills she has learned and the friends she has made and likes that every call-out is a new experience.
Declan spent a year observing his wife doing cool training and going on call outs and decided that he wanted to join in the fun. Originally from Westport, he was away for a good few years and then returned with his family. Declan thoroughly enjoys being able to help or assist anybody in need.
Carol and Declan have two kids who no longer wonder at their parents heading off together to God only knows what situation they will meet on the mountain. Both are very active members who give a lot of their time to the smooth operating of the team as well as to call-outs. Carol heads up the Reek Sunday committee, 2022, a busy job, ensuring that the day, with multi agency participation and support from teams all over the country, goes smoothly with good outcomes for our casualties. Declan is invaluable as Equipment Officer and lends his expertise to a lot of other odd jobs that no-one else knows how to do!
